i don't even get any sympathy, just k looking over at my tortured self going "i told you so". having chinese new year celebrated in two different time zones really screws you up right and royally. one minute i'm getting msgs and calls wishing me a good one, and the next day girl's are wishing me happy cny and i'm like, 'wait, hold up, wasn't it yesterday?' To which i'm met with puzzled looks which have 'you're chinese and you don't know" splashed across their faces. yea, i'm chinese and i know i should be good at math and i should know when cny is- but i don't ,so sue me. all 16 years of my life cny has just been marked by an early wakeup call and new clothes and i just follow whatever the rents tell me to do. "kneel here..oranges there...stop slouching...smile..kiss gonggong...wish them happy new year". Yes,i am a blind follower when it comes to these things. Especially when all the kids have one thing on their minds behind their affable smiles " show me da money....fool." to be perfectly frank, i don't care much for this chinese holiday. it's not like i follow the lunar calendar or anything, except when it comes to howling at the moon ,so what's the big deal about it anyway. -the lion dances freak me out immensely - i don't even know how to eat the watermelon seeds right -i can't reel chinese proverbs of good wishes without some tremendous effort being exercised - i never like my new clothes but get cheesed anyway when i dont have any - ang pows are so hard to keep track of, and the shiny red packets are so deceiving because you're made to think there's gold in em things and you open them to be sadly greeted by a $2 note. -getting weirded out by kooky relatives you haven't seen in a whole year and upon meeting them, being reminded why you avoided them in the first place -being dragged around in general tires and bores me to tears so essentially, what's the big deal about it other than to honour 'tradition'. Seeing as i haven't celebrated his holiday for two years, i guess i have nothing to whine about. I'm far from all those tedious details of cny,but i guess the major downside is i don't get monday or tuesday off. don't they have any respect for chinese tradition! egads! these racists! it's because we're a minority isn't it! i spit on these englishpig-dogs! So there it is, i've spent cny (uk time), whining on about how i don't see the point in it,getting sick on chinese takeaway (my eye is still twitching), and wishing they made as being a deal about it over here as they do in spore so i can enjoy the fringe benefits. i'm ashamed...and i call myself a chinese. |
